There is evidence of a motte and bailey castle at Lingen, a village situated in the Welsh Marches.

The Lingen family lived in this area for many, many years and has a well-documented history.  We cannot claim to have researched such early times but have followed a female line of the family, Elizabeth being born in 1729 and later moving to Gloucestershire.
